Chiropractic · backs, necks, joints

We treat backs and necks. Not everything.

This profession gets sold as an answer to a remarkable number of things. So before anything else, here is what the evidence actually supports us doing, what we will not claim whoever asks, and what that noise really is.

What we treat, and what we will not claim
Low back pain — Hands-on treatment alongside exercise is a reasonable option here, and that is what we offer
Neck pain and some headaches — The same picture. We will tell you at the assessment whether yours looks like the sort that responds
Stiff, aching joints — Desk backs, driving shoulders, hips that have not moved properly in years
What we will not claim — Asthma, colic, allergies, immunity, fertility, blood pressure. There is no good evidence and we will not take money for it
Anything systemic or unexplained — Belongs with your doctor. We will examine you, say so, and write to them the same day
And nothing here is a promise — We describe the treatment, not a result. Whether it helps you is a question your own body answers
The crack isn't the point
What the noise is — Gas coming out of solution in the fluid inside a joint. It is a bubble, and that is genuinely all it is
What it isn't — Nothing goes back in. Nothing was out. A joint that pops is not a bone being returned to a place it had left
A good session may make no noise at all — And it is not a worse session. Some techniques never produce one, and some people never pop
Why we still use adjustments — Because for the right person they get a stiff, guarded area moving comfortably enough to do the work that follows
The work that follows — Loading, strengthening and changing what you do all day. That part is not glamorous and it is most of the result
No care plans. No routine x-rays.
We do not sell packages — No twenty-four visit plan, no year of maintenance paid up front, no discount for committing to a schedule nobody can predict
You pay per visit — So stopping costs you nothing and is never awkward. It also means we have to be worth booking again each time
Typical course — A few visits, then an honest conversation about whether this is working. If it is not, we say so
We do not x-ray everyone — Imaging every new patient is not supported, and radiation without a decision to change is simply a cost you paid twice
When imaging is right — After significant trauma, or when something in the examination points at it. Then it is your doctor who arranges and interprets it

Put your own fees here. What should stay is what is missing from the list — there is no plan, no membership and no discount for paying for treatment you have not had yet.
Consent, in plain words
You will be told what we plan to do — Before we do it, in words rather than jargon, including how it will feel
You can decline any technique — At any point, including halfway through, and without explaining yourself
Neck manipulation specifically — We will discuss it separately. Serious complications are rare, and there are gentler techniques that are reasonable alternatives — you get that choice
We screen before we treat — Some findings mean no manipulation at all. Being told that is a good outcome for your visit, not a wasted one
Afterwards — Being a bit sore for a day is common and expected. Anything sharp, spreading or lasting is a reason to ring us

Practical things people ask about

Ground floor

Step-free entrance and a treatment room you can reach without stairs. Say if you need extra time to get on a couch.

Early and late

First appointment before work, last one in the evening, so nobody has to lose a shift to be seen.

What to wear

Loose clothes you can move in. Gowns exist and are optional, and a chaperone is available whenever you want one.

Insurance

List the insurers you are registered with here and say whether you invoice them or the patient claims back.

Letters both ways

We write to your doctor, and we would rather read their letter than guess at what a scan said.

Parking

Free spaces at the side, and a bus route two minutes away. The dull details that decide whether people come.

Book an assessment

The last question changes what is appropriate, not whether you are welcome. Several of those answers simply mean gentler techniques, and one or two mean we will send you elsewhere first — which we would rather do before you have paid for anything.

Registered chiropractors — put your own regulator and registration numbers here and point people at that public register. In a profession people argue about, being checkable is the strongest thing on the page.
