Don't book a job. Book a list.
Getting someone out costs more than most of these jobs do. So save them up — the shelf, the dripping tap, the door that won't shut, the smoke alarm nobody can reach — and we work through as many as fit the time you booked.
Half day
- As many jobs as fit the four hours
- One tradesman, tools and van
- Materials at cost plus 10%, receipted
- Travel included within 12 miles
Half a day — Five or six: shelves up, a bathroom resiliconed, a sticking door eased, blinds, a fence panel
A full day — A room's worth: skirting, filling and painting a wall, a wardrobe built, a shed base levelled
What doesn't fit — Anything needing a part we have to go and find. That is an hour of your booking spent in a queue
What we get asked for most
Doors
Sticking, dropped, won't latch. Usually hinges or a strike plate rather than a new door.
Mounting
TVs, mirrors, shelves and heavy pictures — into the studs or the right fixing, not a hope and a rawlplug.
Taps and sealant
Washers, mixer cartridges and resiliconing a bath. The small water jobs, not a boiler.
Flat-pack
Built, levelled and strapped to the wall. Bring the instructions; we've usually met the wardrobe before.
Small carpentry
Skirting, architrave, a shelf cut to fit an alcove that is not square. None of them are.
Outside
Fence panels, gate drops, a wonky post, guttering you can reach from a normal ladder.
The consumer unit — We'll swap a light fitting or a socket faceplate. New circuits and board work are notifiable — that is an electrician
Structural — Removing a wall, notching a joist, anything holding the house up. Get it drawn before it gets touched
Asbestos-era materials — Artex, old floor tiles, garage roofing. We stop and it gets tested. This one is not worth the risk to either of us
High outside work — One storey off a proper ladder is our limit. Above that you want a roofer with a tower
Half day, four hours — $220 — the one most people want, and the best value in this list
Full day, eight hours — $390 — cheaper per hour, and the only way to finish a room
Evenings and Saturdays — Plus 25%, booked ahead. Sundays we don't work and won't pretend otherwise
Materials — At cost plus 10%, with the receipts attached to the invoice. Buy them yourself if you'd rather
Travel — Included within twelve miles. Beyond that you get the number before we set off, never after
