The fee is $85. Now we can talk about the rest.
Almost every therapist's website makes you send an email to find that out, which is a strange first move with someone who may already be finding it hard to ask for things. It is on this page, along with the concession slots, what the first session actually involves, and where confidentiality ends.
Fifty minutes
- The same time each week, held for you
- Individual sessions, in person or online
- Couples $110 for sixty minutes
- Concession slots — see below
In immediate danger — Contact your emergency services. That is the right call and nobody will think it was an overreaction
In crisis but safe for now — Put your country's crisis line and text service here, with the numbers written out in full
Your own doctor — Can help the same week with medication, a sick note, or a referral to a service that holds risk properly
When we do work together — We agree at the start what happens if things get worse, so it is a plan rather than an emergency
You are interviewing me too — Ask about training, supervision, experience with what you are bringing, and what a typical course looks like. A good therapist welcomes those questions
Nothing has to be said in order — You do not need a tidy story. Starting in the middle, or with something small, is completely normal
It is fine not to come back — Genuinely. Fit matters more than anything on this page, and I would rather you found the right person than stayed with the available one
Give it two or three sessions — The first one is rarely representative. If it still feels wrong by the third, say so and I will help you find someone else
What I will ask — About risk, medication, alcohol and anyone else involved. Routine, asked of everyone, and not a test you can fail
Cognitive behavioural — Structured, practical, homework between sessions. Good when a specific pattern is the problem
Psychodynamic — Looks at how earlier relationships shape current ones. Slower, and often the one that suits people who have tried the structured route
Person-centred — Less directive, more space. Suits people who need to think out loud with somebody who is not involved
What I actually do — Name your own training and how you work here. What matters is that a reader can tell whether it sounds like them
If I am not right for you — I will say so, and I will give you two or three names rather than a shrug
Couples — $110 for sixty minutes. Both people book together and both can contact me
Concession slots — A number of places at a reduced rate for students, carers and people out of work. Ask — you will be asked what you can manage, not asked to prove anything
When they are full — I will say so plainly rather than keep you waiting on a list that never moves, and I will suggest local low-cost services
Cancellations — Forty-eight hours, or the session is charged. The hour is held for you and cannot be filled at short notice — it is not a penalty, it is how the slot exists
Paying — Monthly by transfer, invoiced. No packages, no blocks bought in advance, and you can stop at any point
Supervision — Every ethical therapist discusses their work with a supervisor. It is anonymised, it is a requirement of practice, and knowing about it beats discovering it
Risk to life — If I believe you or someone else is in immediate danger, I may have to break confidentiality. I will tell you I am doing it wherever I possibly can
Safeguarding — Concerns about a child or a vulnerable adult have to be passed on. This is set by law and by my professional body, not by me
Courts — A court can order notes to be disclosed. It is rare, and you should know it is possible before you decide what to bring
Your notes — Brief, factual, kept securely, and yours to request. Ask at any point what is written about you
When you need someone other than me
A diagnosis
Therapy is not diagnosis. If you want one, or medication, that is your doctor or a psychiatrist — and I will write to them if it helps.
Alcohol and drugs
Specialist services are better at this than a weekly hour, and they are usually free. I will help you find the local one.
Eating difficulties
Often needs a team — medical monitoring alongside therapy. I will say so early rather than work outside what is safe.
Hearing voices or losing touch
Needs a service that can hold risk and prescribe. Your doctor or the local mental health team is the right first call.
Family and children
Under-18s and family work need training I will be explicit about. Ask, and I will refer rather than improvise.
Online sessions
Same fee, same length, from wherever you are — as long as you have a room where you can speak freely.
