Personal injury

No win, no fee. Here's what it still costs.

It does not mean free, and a firm implying otherwise is starting badly. If a claim succeeds, a success fee comes out of your compensation — so this page prints the deductions before the assessment rather than after it.

If the claim fails — You pay us nothing. That part is true, and it's the part firms quote
If it succeeds — our success fee — A percentage of your compensation, capped, and agreed in writing first
If it succeeds — the cost of running it — Medical reports and court fees. Usually recovered from the other side; not always
Insurance against losing — A premium, often taken from the award. You see that figure before you sign
What you actually receive — The award minus those. We put that number in writing before you commit to anything
What we never do — Deduct something you haven't seen in advance, or take on a claim we don't rate
Those percentages sit in the agreement you sign and they do not change afterwards. Ask any firm for this same list before you sign with them — the answer, and how quickly it arrives, tells you most of what you need to know.
When we'll tell you not to claim
When the costs would eat the award — Some claims are entirely real and still not worth bringing. We say so in writing
When liability is genuinely unclear — We'll tell you it's a fight rather than a formality, and let you decide
When the deadline has passed — There is a time limit, it is shorter than people expect, and nobody can move it
When you've already settled — Signing a settlement usually ends it — even a small one, even a quick one
When what you want isn't money — Compensation is money. If you want an apology or a change in practice, there are better routes and we'll name them
We turn claims down, which costs us the case. It is also the reason the assessment is free: we would far rather spend an hour telling you no than a year telling you maybe.

Who decides what

Whether they were at fault

Agreed between the parties, or decided by a court. Never by your solicitor, and never by us telling you what you'd like to hear.

What the injury is worth

Assessed from an independent medical report against published guidelines. We don't set that figure and neither does the insurer.

Whether to settle

You do. Every offer reaches you with our view of it attached, and the decision is recorded in writing each time.

How long it takes

Mostly the other side's insurer and the medical timetable. Months at the least, and we would rather say that now than at month four.

We didn't ring you
We never cold call — Not by phone, not by text, and not through anybody acting for us
We never buy your details — If a claims company offered to pass you along, that was not us and never will be
If somebody says they're us — They aren't. Ring the number on this page and check — it takes a minute
Every enquiry we take comes from somebody who found us. That is slower, and it is the only version of this business worth running.

What we take on

Road traffic

Drivers, passengers, cyclists and pedestrians. Bring the reference number if the police attended, and photographs if anybody took any.

Accidents at work

Including where you're worried about the job afterwards. Reporting an accident is protected, and we'll talk that through before anything is filed.

Public places

Shops, pavements, premises. These turn on evidence that disappears quickly, so photographs on the day matter more here than anywhere.

Medical treatment

A different and slower kind of claim, needing an expert in the same field to say what should have happened. We'll tell you honestly if it isn't one.

They told me my claim wasn't worth bringing, and why, in a letter I could actually follow. Nobody else had bothered to explain any of it.

By request

I knew the exact deductions from the first week. When the money came through it was the number they had written down at the start.

Free assessment
It ends either with a written view of your claim or with a written reason not to bring it. Both take about the same amount of our time, and we charge for neither.
