Garden design & build

Nobody can picture it. That's the job.

You are being asked to spend the price of a car on something you cannot see yet. So here is what we built, and what each one actually cost.

September
March
Drag the handle. Replace with your own pair — the block draws its own placeholder until you do.
What things actually cost
Courtyard, planting and paving — $7,000 – 12,000
Family garden: lawn, beds, patio, lighting — $18,000 – 30,000
Level change, steps or retaining wall — Adds $6,000 – 15,000
Design only, then build it yourself — $1,800 – 3,200
Maintenance after we've gone — From $95 a visit, monthly or seasonal
Ranges rather than a single figure, because the ground decides. Drainage, access and what is buried under the lawn move a quote more than any plant does.
When to start, and why it isn't spring
Design in winter — The quiet months. Drawings, quotes and planning done while nothing grows
Build late winter to spring — Hard landscaping before the ground dries out and the diary fills
Plant autumn or early spring — Roots establish before they are asked to hold anything up
Ring us in May — Everyone does. You will be waiting until autumn and we will say so
A garden booked in January is usually finished before a garden enquired about in May has even been drawn.

How a project runs

Visit and measure

An hour on site, free. Levels, light, drainage and what you actually use the space for.

Design

A plan and a planting list you could hand to anyone. Yours to keep either way.

Quote

Itemised by stage, so you can drop the pergola without redoing the whole thing.

Build

One team, start to finish, and the same foreman on site every day.

Handover

A planting plan, a watering schedule, and what to do in the first hard winter.

Swap these for your own. Photograph from the same spot each time — the pair is worth more than either picture.

Start a project

The budget band is the useful question. We can design almost anything; we can only build what you can afford.

Site visits happen at your garden, not here — we need to see the light and stand on the ground.
