Read by a lawyer. Answered in plain English.
Send the contract somebody has asked you to sign. You get back a one-page answer — sign it, push back on these three things, or don't sign — within two working days, at a price agreed before we start.
Governing law — Your own courts, which is what you want
Payment terms — Thirty days — normal for this kind of work
Notice period — Theirs is seven days and yours is ninety. Ask for symmetry
IP assignment — As written it covers work you did before this contract. It shouldn't
Rolling renewal, no exit — This is the clause people ring us about a year later
If it's fixable — The three or four things worth raising, ranked, with the wording to use
If it's bad — We say don't sign, and why, in language you can forward to whoever sent it
If it isn't our field — We say that as well, and we don't charge for finding out
Same day — Available on request, priced higher, and confirmed before you pay it
If we're late — You don't pay. Not a discount — you don't pay
What we need — The document, and one line about what you're actually worried about
What slows it down — Attachments a contract refers to but nobody sent. We ask once
What a review can't do
Make a clause go away
We can tell you a term is unfair. Whether it changes is up to whoever sent it, and sometimes the honest answer is that they won't move on it.
Be the negotiation
You get the wording and the ranking. If you'd rather we did the back-and-forth, that is a separate quote and we'll tell you whether it's worth paying for.
Predict the outcome
What a clause means if it is ever tested is decided by a court, on facts that don't exist yet. We tell you the risk. We don't tell you the result.

“It came back saying the contract was standard and to sign it. That was worth the fee on its own — I'd been staring at the thing for a week.”
