A quote is only as good as the list.
Two firms can price the same house $600 apart because one of them counted the loft. Walk us round on a twenty-minute video call and the number we give you is the number you pay.
Booked the same week — Often next day outside the summer
You pack, or we do — Packing is quoted separately, never slipped in
Fixed date, fixed crew — The same team loads and unloads
Book four to six weeks out — End of month goes first, every month
Access at both ends — Stairs or a lift, and how close the van can legally park to the door
Long carry — Twenty metres from the van to the door is a different day's work to three
Packing — The biggest variable in the quote, and the one people decide last
The heavy singles — Piano, safe, gun cabinet, American fridge, gym rack. Name them on the survey
The date — The last Friday of the month is the most expensive day in this trade. Move on a Tuesday and ask what it saves
The garage and the shed — Mower, tools, paint, bikes, and the four tyres from a car you no longer own
Under the stairs and the landing cupboard — Small doors, surprising volume
The wardrobe that won't dismantle — Flat-pack that has already moved once rarely survives twice. Better to decide that now than at 8am
The garden — Pots weigh more than anything indoors, and plants need their own decision
The freezer — Has to be defrosted and empty. Nobody remembers until the night before
What the crew does on the day
Wrap and protect
Blankets, straps and corner protection on furniture, plus floor runners at both ends.
Dismantle and rebuild
Beds and flat-pack down at one end and back up at the other, tools included.
Boxes up front
Delivered a week ahead so you're not packing the night before. Unused ones collected.
Fragile packing
Glass, china and pictures done by us — the items most likely to be a claim.
One crew, both ends
The people who loaded your house are the ones who unload it. No handover, no depot.
Rooms labelled
Boxes go to the room you wrote on them, not into a pile in the hall.
Rough prices, before the survey
Local, hourly
- Two movers and a van
- Three-hour minimum
- Blankets, straps and trolleys included
- You pack the boxes
Two-bed, packed
- We pack, move and unpack the kitchen
- Boxes and materials included
- Beds dismantled and rebuilt
- Usually one day, one crew
Long distance
- Priced by volume and distance
- Fixed date and a named crew
- Overnight storage if dates slip
- Quoted after a video survey, then it holds
Boxes you packed yourself — Usually excluded unless the box is visibly damaged. Not a trick — nobody can insure what they didn't see go in
Anything unusually valuable — Declare it before the day: jewellery, instruments, art. Some things are better in your own car
The money — A deposit to hold the date, the balance on completion. Nobody should be asking for the full amount in cash before the van is unloaded
